Bump Stops

Bump stops are intended to minimise bump travel without making noise, acting near to the end of the wheel travel. The stop pieces are stored at the top of the protective tube (Fig. 5.47), which is a low-cost approach that currently poses no technical or service life challenges. The damper mountings are made to be able to transfer reasonably substantial forces, as discussed in Section 5.6.8.1, and typically just a small reinforcing is required if additional forces are generated by compression stops or supplemental springs.
