Clamps

A "clamp" (sometimes known as a "cramp") is a device that provides force to securely hold two or more things together. It is frequently constructed of cast metal. The pieces may hold together without the help of the clamp for an indefinite amount of time before being separated, or they may do so permanently (for example if they have been glued or screwed).

Although the terms "clamp" and "cramp" can be used interchangeably in many situations, "clamp" is more frequently used in engineering and "cramp" is more frequently used in carpentry.
