Engine Gaskets

The purpose of gaskets is to provide a seal between two engine surfaces. Engines are susceptible to temperature and pressure variations, while engine parts are also mobile due to the material and function of the engines. Engine parts expand, contract, move apart from one another, and are brought closer together when the engine heats up and cools down under pressure from vacuum and compression.

The engine is subjected to stresses and strains from all sides, which causes the gaskets to be heated, cooled, and rubbed. Similar to how a gasket behaves differently under increasing pressure than under decreasing pressure, a cold gasket responds differently than a hot one.
