Steering Racks
The rack, a bar parallel to the front axle that travels left or right as the steering wheel is turned to point the front wheels in the right direction, is a component of a rack-and-pinion steering system. The rack is engaged by the pinion, a tiny gear located at the end of the steering column of the car. Despite their durability, steering racks occasionally need to be replaced. The ability to spin the steering wheel in one direction but not the other, as well as jerky movements or noises, are symptoms of a malfunctioning rack.
